Killalea Excursion

On Thursday 27th November, 27 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from K-2 went to Killalea to explore the Aboriginal culture of the area. There were two groups organised on the day. The first activity was walking down the very steep steps to 'The Farm' where we looked at middens (camp sites) and sorted shells. We then walked into a shaded area where we created shelters out of materials like sticks and leaves. Then it was beach time!

We took off our shoes and socks then headed to the waters edge to look for pipis. This was one of our favourite things to do and a lot of us did get a little wet! We explored rocks on the beach before we headed back up the steep steps.

After lunch we headed off with Jodi Edwards to learn about bush tucker. We made soap, ate some purple berries and learnt about the historic Scar Tree. Afterwards, we explored Aboriginal tools and were able to have a go at throwing boomerangs and blunt spears. We had an amazing day and were all a bit weary at the end!killalea
